Eyes Wide Shut
21 July 2008
I sat down to only watch the first half hour (as I sometimes do, watching a movie in many shorter segments over a few days) and ended up staying through the whole 145 minutes of it I was so hooked; not unlike the same way I sat through the first theatre show I saw many years ago, so captivated by the acting I forget I was watching a play till I heard the final applause. For once Cruise got me going. Kubrick uses Cruise and Kidman to explore the many themes of humanity and love (jealousy and sex being some of them), as much as you are by watching it. It is theatrically set, it is slowly paced, it is posé yet crisp. My favorite shot: head on shot of hot-headed Cruise walking down the winter city streets at night.
